From 8 to 20 June 2021, the artist Irene Kopelman will open a workshop-laboratory in the contemporary gallery of MAMAC to share with the public the progress of her research carried out during her residency – supported by the IDEX UCAjedi of the Université Côte d’Azur – at the Laboratoire de Biologie du Développement de Villefranche-sur-Mer (LBDV) and at the Institute for Research on Cancer and Aging of Nice (IRCAN), on the subject of marine creatures. A unique opportunity to explore an artistic research, and a project at the crossroads of arts and sciences.
Discover with her and the labteams this approach based on the observation of tiny marine invertebrates, studied by scientists for their exceptional capacity for regeneration. The gallery space and the workshops will allow all audiences to share this journey from observation to representation, from microscope to pencil, and to experience knowledge through practice. Through the workshops dive into a world of research that opens up current ecological and health issues through marine biology and artistic practice. This “Workstation” combines artistic materials (drawings, notebooks and observations of these tiny and graceful marine creatures) and materials from the scientific laboratories (aquariums and microscopes).
It’s animated each day by meetings with scientists from the laboratories, the artist, the MAMAC team and drawing workshops.
Kids and all, dive into the world of tiny marine creatures in the ephemeral workshop of the artist Irene Kopelman!
The MAMAC’s contemporary gallery, transformed into an ephemeral laboratory, is animated each day by meetings with the scientists of two labs dedicated to marine biology, the artist and the MAMAC team. You can also take part in drawing workshops for the general audience.
