This international exhibition brings together more than thirty works by Fernand Léger, a pioneer of contemporary art, alongside European and American avant-garde artists active from the 1960s to the present day.
The project aims to illustrate the contemporary, multidisciplinary, and visionary scope of Fernand Léger’s work.
The exhibition at La Venaria Reale (TO), Italy, highlights the strong historical and artistic link between Léger’s work and the French art scene of the 1960s, particularly with the New Realists group, who appropriated everyday objects from consumer society and street aesthetics. This movement brought together artists such as Arman, César, Raymond Hains, Yves Klein, Martial Raysse, Daniel Spoerri, and Niki de Saint Phalle.
Other international periods and movements, such as American Pop Art with Robert Indiana and May Wilson, as well as emerging artists of the 1970s and 1980s such as Gilbert & George in London and Keith Haring in New York, are presented in the exhibition in dialogue with Léger’s work.
The exhibition draws mainly on the collections of the Musée national Fernand Léger in Biot and the MAMAC in Nice, as well as important loans from the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
Exhibition co-organized by the Consortium des Résidences Royales de Savoie, the GrandPalaisRmn, the Musées nationaux du XXe siècle des Alpes-Maritimes / Musée national Fernand Léger in Biot, and The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMAC) in Nice, in collaboration with ManifestoExpo and MondoMostre
