Cai Guo-Qiang was born on December 8th 1957 in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, China.
From 1981 to 1985 he studied in the Department of Stage Design at the Shanghai Theatre Academy. In 1986 Cai Guo-Qiang settled down in Tokyo before leaving in 1995 for New York where he lives and works today.
